<Staticbeats beat me to the punch, since I had to eat and shower, so some of our information is the same but...> First off... iDVD records everything region-less. The dialogue box issue that asked what region you're in was actually DVD Player. DVD Player will ask this when you put in certain DVDs to watch. This is due to archaic laws concerning copyright and Apple was forced to do that by the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America). However, if the person uses VLC Player or MPlayer (look them up on www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com) this won't be a problem and they should be able to watch DVDs from all regions. Do not worry about regions with iDVD. It records region-less. According to iDVD help, and I quote: "iDVD creates DVD discs that work in all DVD regions." According to this excellent iMovie resource page, all recent PAL DVD players that can read DVD-R and recent TVs (within 8-10 years old) can also view NTSC video: http://www.danslagle.com/mac/iMovie/tips_tricks/6017.shtml Here's an excellent iDVD resource page that might help out: http://www.kentidwell.com/idvd4/ I wouldn't worry about the PAL issue since most European players can play PAL/NTSC and SECAM natively. And, as I wrote, iDVD actually encodes everything region-less. Here are a number of Applecare documents (tell your friend next time to use Sherlock [should be in his/her Applications folder] to search by keyword on Apple's Applecare system) that will undoubtedly help: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=50156 (iDVD: How to Create NTSC and PAL format DVD discs) http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61884 (iMovie 3: How to Switch From NTSC to PAL) http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=150047 (Choosing NTSC or PAL format for new projects) http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=150011 (Exporting your movie for viewing in another format) http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60788 (iDVD: Questions and Answers) http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60183 (DVD Player: About DVD-Video Regions) http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=150476 (iDVD Setting the video format for a new project) Good luck. Hope this helps.
